Project Engineer


Position Overview

This role will have direct ownership over critical capital projects NuMat is investing in to become a state-of-the-art adsorbent manufacturer. In particular, this individual will help design and oversee the construction of NuMat’s new demo-scale production facility and handle the hand-off to the operations group. Additionally, this individual will design pilot plants and other equipment for PSA and TSA applications and will work directly with the R&D organization on process development for separations technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with R&D organization to define project requirements and manage the design, construction and installation of equipment at NuMat
  • Adsorbent manufacturing pilot plant
  • R&D breakthrough measurements
  • PSA pilot plants
  • Manage project schedule and budget
  • Develop operating procedures and facilitate knowledge transfer to the manufacturing organization
  • For larger capital projects you will manage selection process for appropriate engineering / design firms, for smaller capital projects you will be expected to do the process design and management, procurement and construction
  • Establish internal design tools and standards
  • Identify and champion workflow improvements
  • Follow HS&E and quality standards

The Individual

A. Education

  • BS or MS Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

B. Experience

  • Minimum 5 years industrial experience as process, project or R&D engineer, preferably with background chemicals, adsorbents, catalysts
  • Experience managing capital projects and following FEL
  • Preferred: Experience with ASPEN, gPROMS
  • Preferred: Experience with commercial PSA or TSA systems
  • Preferred: Experience in engineering and operational roles at a manufacturing facility
  • Preferred: Familiarity with pipe and tube fittings, and working with compressed gases
  • Preferred: Familiarity with agitated batch reactors, filtration, centrifugation, extrusion, granulation, solids drying, solids handling / conveying
  • Preferred: Experience working with hazardous chemicals
  • Preferred: Knowledge of electrical and control wiring (LabView, PLCs)
